Why Counselling?

Our therapists help encourage resilience and foster the growth and recovery of individual’s to improve their quality of life. Our counsellors implement a range of appropriate strategies to encourage wellness for all. Our sessions allow each individual the opportunity to share anything they feel they need to discuss and understand better.

We provide understanding and compassion at a time of need, while building skills to assist in becoming self-aware and fostering self-growth. We assist children to express themselves in a healthy and productive way that can alleviate any restrictive emotional states such as anxiety, stress and depression. These states impact our thoughts, feelings, energy and behaviour, and can restrict our abilities to express our needs to others.

How we Help
Person Centered Therapy

Client driven so that they are able to discuss what is happening for them. To share what it is that they want to or need to share. With this approach we are working towards a state on congruence. This first comes from the therapist but transitions to the client’s life.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Counselling Directory.

Expressive Therapies
Sand Tray

Is an expressive therapies-based intervention style that helps people to process hard to talk about topics or to express themselves when they are unable to do so through words. By incorporating symbols, it allows for the patterns, objects and the movement of the sand to do the talking.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Good Therapy.

Symbol Work

Symbols are used to represent emotions, thoughts, interactions, people and situations as an example. They allow for interaction to happen without the use of words. Just like a picture says a thousand words, so do symbols.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Expressive Therapies Institute of Australia.

Art (Painting, drawing, clay etc.)

There are a variety of ways that different modes of art can be used to express a person’s thoughts, feelings or actions. It can also be used to assist with emotional regulation.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Verywell Mind.

Therapy Cards

A way to express yourself through the use of cards. These can be of symbols, words or just plain pictures. They can depict how a thought, feeling, action or situation can be presented in the randomised of ways.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Choosing Therapy.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

This type of therapy is used to assist in encouraging people to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them of feeling guilty for them.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Positive Psychology.

You can find more information regarding this approach on CEBC.

CBT

Looking at thought patterns and how they are informing feelings and behaviours. By focusing on the thought pattern, it can be altered so that it becomes helpful rather than destructive. This then sets up positive schemas moving forward to assist in positive interactions with others.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Healthline.

Attachment Theory

Assisting in building positive attachments and interactions with others. Looking at insecure attachments and how they inform our choices, behaviours, thoughts, feelings and interactions with others.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Wikipedia.

A program that facilitates and encourages a secure attachment by providing insight into how to support and provide security to a child as they explore their world and seek comfort for themselves.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Circle of Security International.

Spoon Theory

Is a visual that is used to allow a person to keep track of their energy levels. It also helps to inform when a person might need to engage in a self-care activity to boost their energy (or gain another spoon). By keeping track of your spoons, it brings forth awareness of what is a triggering and draining activity, thought or feeling.

You can find more information regarding this approach on Family & Child Therapy.

Trauma Informed Practice

Is a way to care for those that have experienced trauma so that they can begin the path of understanding and processing the trauma so that they can grow. It is a practice so not to retraumatise the person but to help them heal.
