This is Adam https://www.springfwd.com.au/this-is-adam/ https://www.springfwd.com.au/this-is-adam/#respond Mon, 05 Nov 2018 01:37:09 +0000 https://www.springfwd.com.au/?p=1598 Adam is getting ready to jump off the loft into a pit of cushions below. This activity used to be tricky for Adam but now he is able to jump independently with so much confidence. Not only is doing crashes into the cushions super fun but it allows Adam to experience vestibular, tactile and proprioceptive input, which all work to help us stay regulated!

Keep up the jumping Adam!

October is Sensory Processing Awareness Month! https://www.springfwd.com.au/october-is-sensory-processing-awareness-month/ https://www.springfwd.com.au/october-is-sensory-processing-awareness-month/#respond Fri, 26 Oct 2018 07:47:44 +0000 https://www.springfwd.com.au/?p=1808 At Spring Forward, we are excited to be a part of spreading the awareness of Sensory Processing awareness and helping children and their families dealing with the confusing world of SPD.SPD is a neurological disorder that affects sensory functioning. Although it has been linked with those living with Autism (ASD) and behavioural disorders such as ADHD, OCD and other conditions, it needs to be known that SPD is a separate disorder with its own specialised treatment.

Some red flags of SPD can include:

  • Unaware of when they have been hurt
  • Frequent jumping and/or purposeful falling onto the ground and crashing into things
  • Touching everything they see
  • Seeking excessive movement
  • Fearful of movements such as swinging or being upside down
  • Larger than expected reactions to sound and touch
  • Avoids messy play and certain textures
  • Significant picky eating

If you have concerns that your child is showing some signs of sensory processing disorder, contact Spring Forward for more information.

They’re also a great way to begin to follow patterns and instructions, develop an understanding of spatial awareness, support the development of attention and concentration, support creativity and imaginative play skills, and so much more! Such little bricks but a fun way to achieve our therapy goals.

Meet Grace! https://www.springfwd.com.au/meet-grace/ https://www.springfwd.com.au/meet-grace/#respond Tue, 28 Aug 2018 02:26:38 +0000 https://www.springfwd.com.au/?p=1586 Grace is working hard on her Occupational Therapy sessions. While Grace is swinging, we are playing games to encourage far and near point focus, hand eye coordination and greater control of her eye muscles. This is needed to help with visual perceptual development, attention regulation and a greater understanding of how we move within our world (spatial awareness).

Keep up the good work Grace!
