Spring Forward Family Centre is an ever-expanding children’s multi-disciplinary therapy clinic dedicated to a high standard of evidence-based care.  Our centre has excellent facilities including a large sensory motor room, 6 other spaces, plus a large range of resources and equipment. 

We are looking for a full-time Occupational Therapist to join us. You will be working within a vibrant and passionate team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists and Psychologists, and supported by an experienced administrative team.

Professional development is encouraged and supported both with weekly in-services and a continuing education allowance.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Occupational Therapist Team Leader, you’ll plan, deliver and evaluate person-centred Physiotherapy services that deliver choice and control to participants. Amongst other duties, key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessment and treatment of children
  • Use a strengths-based approach to develop, plan and evaluate Occupational Therapy services/ recommendations that reflect the needs and goals of the children and their families.
  • Providing evidence-based physiotherapy interventions for participants presenting with a wide range of conditions and syndromes.
  • Provide both individual and group Occupational Therapy intervention programs to achieve maximum independence and participation in activities important to the client.
  • Working closely with families to provide support and education.
  • Collaboration with professional colleagues to maximise developmental outcomes and independence for children and their families. 

Requirements:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy as recognised by the Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • New graduates welcome to apply.
  • Strong clinical experience with a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience in paediatric Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience working with children 0-18 years.
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of children from infancy to adolescence and proficient using a range of standardised assessment tools.
  • A sound understanding of a range of paediatric conditions.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning for planning and implementing individual therapy sessions.
  • Has experience in disability and knowledge of the NDIS (preferred).
  • Demonstrates excellent communication with children, parents and team peers.
  • The ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Is committed to professional development.
  • Excellent time management, organisational, computer and communication skills.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • National Police Check.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence & willingness to use own car for work purposes.

This activity used to be tricky for Adam but now he is able to jump independently with so much confidence. Not only is doing crashes into the cushions super fun but it allows Adam to experience vestibular, tactile and proprioceptive input, which all work to help us stay regulated!

Although it has been linked with those living with Autism (ASD) and behavioural disorders such as ADHD, OCD and other conditions, it needs to be known that SPD is a separate disorder with its own specialised treatment.

    Some red flags of SPD can include:

    • Unaware of when they have been hurt
    • Frequent jumping and/or purposeful falling onto the ground and crashing into things
    • Touching everything they see
    • Seeking excessive movement
    • Fearful of movements such as swinging or being upside down
    • Larger than expected reactions to sound and touch
    • Avoids messy play and certain textures
    • Significant picky eating

We can’t wait for the next Messy Monsters group!

Throughout the week, two groups were run simultaneously during daily morning sessions and on three afternoons, the groups came together at a specifically chosen local venue to practically apply the skills they had been learning throughout the week. Here are some pics from our first venue where we practice our positive self-talk and challenged our inner critic!
